One thing that bugs me about Beatles cover bands is that a lot of them feel the need to put on a "Beatle" singing voice. As in, the singers squeeze their throats and sound squeaky. The Beatles didn't really sound like that. People parodying them later do.

I had a very similar complaint about the Peter Gabriel "character" when I saw the Musical Box a few years ago. Peter never sounded like the way that guy portrayed him during the speaking parts between songs. At least, not during the period I saw Genesis 4 times with Gabriel (first US tour supporting Foxtrot in April 1973 through The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour).

I think the Fab Faux has a good approach. But then they aren't really doing the impersonation tribute thing.

Good photos. "The Beatles In India" website is very cool. My sister just visited the Maharishi's ashram of the time. Abandoned and overgrown apparently.

I know what you mean.... and the "John" character is often the one who overdoes it.

ORANGE COLORED SKY's roots go back to 1962, when Larry Younger formed The Fabulous Epics in Erie, PA. The Epics soon moved to New York City and became the house band at the world-famous Peppermint Lounge. Years later, Tom Hanks would call them The Wonders and tell their story in his film ‘That Thing You Do’. In 1968 the band moved to Southern California, was signed by Universal, and became ORANGE COLORED SKY. SKY hit big in Los Angeles, appearing in the movie "The Love God" with Don Knotts, in TV commercials with Petula Clark, on The Steve Allen Show, and in all the hot clubs. SKY soon became regulars at the Flamingo, Harrah's, and other major venues in Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe. In 1970 SKY replaced The Carpenters as Burt Bacharach's opening act. SKY also toured with Frank Sinatra and assisted Governor Ronald Reagan's re-election campaign.
