Actually Jeff, that's not a bad idea. If I could arrange it so that Fatboy II passed hand to hand between Forumites I'd do it.
Otherwise, the less time it spends with Fedex or UPS the better.

I'm about 4 hours from Phoenix, and about 3 from Las Vegas. I'd be up for a drive east to help safely convey this lovely instrument to it owner.

Here is a pic from one of the clinics we did on Sunday, the "How To Remove An Old Style Truss Rod" clinic. One of Ben Brown's 4001s was the donor bass.
The delivery was a success.
IT'S A BOY!!!!
As you can see, he is proudly holding his first vintage TR!

John, thanks for the assessment. I guess the 4005 I played just wasn't a particularly good one (I think it was late 70s). I LOVE Jeffrey's tone on that beauty.

For the record that tone was provided by 3 1/2 year old Chromes! Both pickups up full.

I have to say that last weekend was incredible - A total blast! Got to the hotel late Friday night, so I missed dinner with everyone, But I ran into Rick Roosa and his girlfriend in the lobby checking in. They hadn't had dinner yet either, so we went to the steakhouse and ate. The other forumites showed up directly after their dinner, so got to meet many.
Saturday was hectic. When I walked in at 10:00, about half of the walls and table spaces were already filled. So many Ricks in one place, at one time. After I set up my measly three, I didn't know what to look at first. Spent a lot of time zig-zagging across the room, because everywhere you looked, there was something cool to look at. Everyone kept gravitating towards that 730/12 - That was one sweet playing 12 string. I'm glad it went home with a fellow forumite. I had inquired to Chris about the price, but as I've got a 360/12C63 to (mostly) pay for, I couldn't swing the 730. I did, however, get one of the Rickenbacker case stands - My souvenir for the weekend. By mid-day, most of the available stands were occupied, and by 2:00, Chris and Darryl were packing away store stock to make room for more Ricks coming through the door. I think I heard that there were 125 at the peak - I know I counted 108 at one point.
Sunday was more laid back, as many had only come for Saturday. But that was OK, as we had time to do a clinic and let Jdog pull a truss rod, courtesy of a project 4001 in attendance. By 3:00 Sunday, most had left. There were only a few of us there when the 345F and RM 360 w/f hole showed up. Two really sweet, rare guitars to cap it all off! Sunday night Paul and his wife hosted dinner for John, Jdog and myself. we then sat at the steakhouse bar until they kicked us out. Then finally, a little late night jamming with Jdog, John and myself before calling it quits.
Many thanks to Chris and Shelby for hosting us (including catered lunch both days!). Special thanks to Darryl for being there and putting up with all of us. And of course to all the new friends I made - Dave, Jeff, Brian, Paul, John, Jdog, Russ, Mark, Ben and Tammy, Rick and Erica. I know I'm leaving out many, and I apologize.

Kris it was great to meet you.. I agree there were so many wonderful people there it is hard to be able to remember everyone. I seemed to have become smitten with this whole Rickenbacker thing.. I find myself looking at them and for them.. kind of bizarre.. but still fun. I am glad you finally made it through all that DC traffic. Thank you for answering my goofy questions.
