It will also be my last amp here I think as I am not able to get a valid "month" for my RB120. The Rick serial decoder just gives a year, RRF register gives December (which could be a programming error?) for an Y as month (ZY). Rick service tells to date via the pots. But I suspect pots could be lying around for more than a month so if this gives a valid month of the amp leaving the factory is a question to me. I could be wrong in this assumption offcourse.

That's actually a safe assumption. My March 1979 4001 has pots from late 1978 in it.

Thanks Joey. I was looking for a picture of a different instrument and saw my post way back by the beginning of this thread and said, "Hmm, its November again and this thread is almost off the front page of the forum..." So hopefully it is revived again, complete with stories on the instruments.

In early 1992 I received a call from my local guitar store that they just received the new Chris Squire 4001. That evening went to the shop, played the bass and agreed to buy the bass. The next day after going to the bank for the loan ( I think about $1100 or right under that) and giving them the Serial number etc I arrived at the guitar shop. One of the guitar store workers sold it to someone else. Oct 2008, I received a call from the same guitar shop ( Different owners) and they just got in a used Chris Squire 4001. Went to the shop and it's the exact same bass and serial number as the one I was going to buy in 1992. Now the bass is 3 times the original price, missing the Certificate, and the original pickguard. Would you pay the $3 grand for the bass? It actually plays well, no chips, no cracks but the finish has some crazing......I feel like I should buy it but do you think it would be worth it? I am not too familiar with American prices but to me it seems as if you are going to get this amount and more back when economic tides rise again. Besides.... It's your bass. I would have bought it anyway if finances would have allowed me to.

Jay, that is significantly less than they were going for before the recent stock market, uh, realignment. $3k is not bad for one. I would try and talk them down for the no cert and signature guard, those are subtractions. Then it would be in line with condition and economic times. The guard more than the cert.

And welcome aboard. Serendipitous that it is the same exact same CS.
