1958: Hofner President f-hole acoustic (vintage unknown): In a quantum leap from his first instrument, and with a little help from Mum, Harrison purchased this handsome Hofner, a top-of-the-line, single-cutaway "cello style" model with a sunburst finish and a "Compensator" tailpiece, for £30. He played the President until swapping it to a member of the Swinging Blue Jeans the following year for a Hofner Club 40.............. Before mounting a small pickup, Harrison got extra volume by playing this guitar with its head against a wardrobe cabinet.

About $700.00 now, if I'm reading the converter correctly.

According to

http://inflation.stephenmorley.org/

30 pounds in 1958 is equal to 654 pounds today (I'm surprised it has gone up THAT much)

654 pounds today is equal to about $800 US.

Bottom line is that the 30 pounds that George's family paid for that guitar was probably a very significant about of money for them.

There's a nice one on Reverb right now. Couple 'o' thousand. Pretty guitar.

Serious mixing problems (which actually make it interesting in parts) but this is supposedly a recording that just emerged.
