Check out page 51 of Lewisohn's Recording Sessions. Looks like the same photo to me...
Indeed..... and it's a less cropped photo showing that it was taken NOT on the road but at Abbey Road studios. If the date of the picture is the same as date of the page in the book, then it was Oct 1964. No big surprise here, but it does raise the question that maybe John was using the new 325 (white double layered pickguards) for gigs and still using his old repainted 325 (gold pickguard) in the studio.
Babiuk's Beatles Gear page 145 talks about some of this as well.

"There's no point in Mr Martin being uptight... I mean you're very negative".... says George. Just goes to show that the tension of those days wasn't only within the group.

Paul McCartney has filed suit in New York against Sony/ATV and is looking to get a declaratory judgment that states he will soon regain his copyright ownership share to a treasured catalog of songs created as a member of The Beatles.
Does this look like John? Sort of, but I suspect it is not. First of all, Lennon supposedly got his first guitar in 1957 while this photo purportedly shows him at age 13 (1953 or so) playing a legit bar chord.
Pretty darn great! The strengths that got Pete into the band as well as the weaknesses that led to his eventual replacement are all right there.

(Much lay...tuhhh!)
This is not to take anything away from Pete Best, at all. As a fan I should've put it differ'nt. My apologies. Pete was crucial in many ways during the phenomenal time period he played in the band.
On the other hand, I was just listening to the drumming on Drive My Car and it has so much finesse, and the time and tone of the semi-rim shots during the verses, it's just...Ringo!
