I think your onto something there Brian, sounds like your wife has a great sense of humor.
Janey just keeps smiling at me as she shakes her head in disbelief as I continually keep looking the laptop.

"Well I didn't say it would be EASY!"
Thankfully its not easy. I would be willing to bet that most of the people active on this forum are easily bored in spite of the fact that our spouses (and others) look at us and "shake their heads in disbelief." If this were easy, it wouldn't be any fun at all! And I'm having a blast!

Let's recap. Based on the "clues" out there I think that gold and silver are out as they are not associated with 75th anniversarys anyway. If there is any use of silver it is in the metal flake of another color. We know it's not blonde or even sorta blonde based on Mr. Hall's statement. And diamonds are not usually associated with a color. (By the way why is Fender sticking a fake diamond on there 60th anniversary models since diamonds are for the 75th). 650's appear to be out as are models with binding. John Hall's most positive responses seem to be after posts with a mention of colors in the red, burgandy family so my guess is something along those lines that is metallic. Model wise my guess would be a 330, 360, 620 and a bass. Well that was a good waste of time, I better get to work.

Marc,
Waste, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. From my perspective, you made and investment which benefited all of us...thanks!

I've looked over the 272 posts from last week, and I'm none the wiser. I think I know what the colour's going to be, but I'm not sure. I'm just going to have to wait at this stage.
This won't factor into the anniversary colour, but when I was thinking about why a 650 would be a red herring and why a 4004 wouldn't suit the colour, I began thinking that maybe there were two colours to the guitar in question. Maybe one colour for the front, one for the back. (650's and 4004's are so contoured that they don't have a clear break between front and back in my humble opinion. They're one continuous shape.) This is not going to happen, but I've sometimes thought that a 330 might look good if the front and back face of the body were painted one colour, and the sides, neck and headstock painted another. Kind of like a Danelectro look. Black and white would look very mod. Burgundy and a deep gray would look pretty good, too. You'd have to keep the colour choice tasteful, or the effect would be ruined.

One thought with respect to the timing and relative location of JH's posts (not to mention Ben and Eric). I have the impression that he occasionally sees something that is on the right track, but then delays commenting on it. That makes it more difficult to correlate his comment to a specific post. His negative posts (ala the recent ones the on guitar color at the Starship concert being wrong) seem to be more immediate. He has said several times that "someone has it exactly right." Now the question is, who is the "someone", what is "it" and what does he mean by "exactly right?"

So far John, Ben, Richard and Eric have it right. The rest of us are in the dark. But someone on the forum may have stumbled on the right answer. Who is that someone?

That's what I wanted. I consider that comment to be a major clue.
Thanks, Eric

Well, if nothing else someone is going to have some bragging rights at the 75th!!! I'm bringing a bottle of a very nice malted beverage (no...not Schlitz...something from a place in Islay) to the 75th and in celebration of excellent detective work, will offer a good sized dram to those who "got it just about right." Time will tell!

Maybe silver with chrome guards?
Looks snazzy enough for an anniversary model?
