Peter "some" in Peru are a very small nutty minority, and most Peruvians share my opinion, haha!
Actually their medical care is just as good as ours (US) just costs less than 5% of what we Americans pay. They actually don't rush you out the door, a dentist actually didn't charge me anything once for a small job, I almost fainted, would have been a 50.00 job here minimum. very refreshing attitude there.
Ok back to subject.

the necks are pretty wide on the 4004Cii 5. You'll need to make some adjustments Jeff.

Scott, one very beautiful bass that 4004Cii is. That bass of yours made me order my 4004Cii5 like that. Your picture makes me wish it would finally arrive. Its over 9 months I'm waiting for it. I think I ordered it on your birthday.

Do 4004s sound as beautiful as they look?

I really like the 4004 ... the series humbucker pickups have a nice growl ... they look cool the feel good ... they are light ... but when push comes to shove and I go on stage ... I prefer a 4003 ... I prefer the modern high pickups ...

But the 4004 has a nice sound ... If you have a few rics and want something different get a 4004 ... if you can only afford one bass get a 4001/4003 ...

The 4004 records nice with the growlly humbuckers ... but I really prefer the single coil bite ...

It's like the old debate which is a better rock n roll guitar ... the strat or the les paul ...

What Jeff said, 4004's have their own voice, darker sounding, more of a modern sound. His Larado sounds a bit brighter sounding than my CII, but that could just be the difference in EQ.

By the way, thats a good sound bite Jeff.

I rewired mine like a jazz bass with carvin pots and put a toaster in the neck and then ran it into a bass pod ... and the Laredo is a little brighter than the Cheyene because maple is a little brighter than walnut ... also the bridge that I put on changed the tone a little as well ... and then my picking technique brings out a nice sound as well ...

Soundchecking at a festie in France; good shot of the C64 reversed headstock. You can probably guess from my expression that the s/c ain't going too well...Image

Wonder of wonders a Rickenbacker performing with a Bluegrass Band:

Image
That's a Bag End S12B and an Eden Time Traveler behind me, what a luscious combo for this gig that was. Who said these were one trick ponies anyway. I used both the percussive thonk and picking on the neck of the C64S for great upright slap attack simulation that thrilled all of the bandmates. Pyramid flats of course (o;}

I used a 76' 4001 during my time with the Suburbilies, we were an alt-country-bluegrass band, the bass sounded great.
