Congratulations Gordon and Erik! You guys have inspired me to take mine gigging this weekend. I havent played it that much since I got my fireglow 4003, but we got a gig Saturday night, and the guys in the band really like her, so I think I'll take her out for the evening.

Man, I think I really need to get one of these dern newfangled 4004 thingies at some point.

Those transluscent finishes look really classy.

They look as modern as any bass out there, for those of the opinion that Rics look like relics.

Congrats to the new 4004 owners, welcome to the club! My C-ii is trans blue too Erik and I very much agree with Jerry, they do look very modern and have a modern RIC sound too in my opinion. I really think RIC did a great job of updating the design with this line of basses without losing the spirit of the traditional models.

Depending on how warm it is in your house, and the difference in humidity frmo outside, I'd leave the bass in its box for at least 12 hours, then unbox it and leave the case closed for another day.
I hate the sound that a cracking finish makes.

Thanks..looks like i wont get it till monday but will follow your advice and keep it in the case for 24 hours..will post some pics after the holidays. One thing i was wondering though..is the spacing on the bridge of the 4004 adjustable? I plan on changing the strings when i get the bass and dont want to mess the alingment or factory specs up. The spacing rollers on the schaller bridge i own are very loose...thats why i ask.

Here it is. I love this bass! It feels really solid and looks amazing in person. It kind of has a feel more like that of my 2030 than my 4001.

I was out gigging last night and I used my 2030-5 and my 4004L5 both did the job quite nicely ... My 4004L developed a small problem ... the maple fretboard wood shrank a little in the dry air in my house ... the frets were protrucing a little ... I had to get out my dremmel and do a little grinding ... I think this is why they discontinued the maple fret board ... I had this problem on a jazz and p-bass that had maple fretboards ...
Both the 2030 and the 4004 are good gigging basses ... the 2030 has as much or more sustain as the neck through models ... pretty good for a bolt on ... the only down side of the 2030 is that it is not as pretty as a 4004 or 4003 ...

Jeff, a diamond dust ski hone takes care of protruding fret ends and leaves a fine smooth edge and does minimal damage to the finish since it rides on 2 or more frets at a time. You generally have to do this only once after the fretboard finally cures.

Thank you Andy..glad to join the club..i put a set of D'Addario flatwounds on 40-95 and lowered the action some and strobed tuned it and i'm very happy with the tone and the way it plays. I'm amazed at the lows and mids i can get out of this bass even with light gauge strings. One thing i wonder though is that all new rics have a higher nut?..the E string still rides rather high compared to my 93 4001 and my other ric basses..any other 4004 owners experience this? I'm still rather hesitant to start filing the nut as i have never done that before..bass still plays great though with the light gauge strings
