Oh yeah, I think it will do rockabilly. Just set the bridge pickup on full treble and it will twang with the best of them.

Peter Levett: If you're talking about the Fireglo 381 I don't think it's a special order...
I've seen a few Fireglo's for sale. Though not too many.

Here's pictures of one that was for sale at The Rickenbacker Page:

Although they are both very pretty I like Robert's one better.
How about some close-ups Rob? Image

I've been able to rip off some nice Robert Gordon licks on my 381...and I'm told that the guy that owned it (briefly) before me did indeed play jazz on it...he had flat wounds on it.

I'll have a go tonight Patrick - but the flame on the one you showed puts mine to shame!

In fact most of the pictures I've seen of 381s show much more impressively figured tops than mine, but mine is the only one I've actually seen in person (I'm a Brit see?) and there's no way in the world I'll ever get rid. I'll be buried with this baby!

Patrick Magee, you are missing an important point about my 381 being a possible "one off", it is a lefty (The photos you added are righty). It was a custom order and the bridge pick up is in a different position to normal. I have its history which supposedly links it to Roger McGuinn (he was said to have special ordered it for a friend who later sold it to me, but I don't know if it is true or not).

Patrick M:

At the time that I bought my MB 381 from Wildwood Guitars, they showed no less than three others on their website, and two of these were new FG's--a 6 and a 12.

I think that, like most other non-bass Ricks, FG might be in a virtual tie with MG for most popular and hence most common standard finish.

Sorry about that Peter, I thought you were asking a question about Rob's FG 381..
Yeah I completly misunderstood and it's true I've never seen one with the same pickup placement and left handed to top it off.

Rob what I like about yours is that the paint doesn't go above the tailpeice.

Just in from Kevin Kunney a November 1987 381/12V69. How gorgeous is this?

Wow. The figuring on the wood is great!

Gold guards, huh?

Nicely aged FG, too. Lovely color!

That is really nice - almost looks like it's got a quilted thing going on with the wood.
Beautiful indeed!! Everytime I see one of those 381's I get greener... Image

The guitar is actually "birdseye" maple and has the most "eyes" of any guitar I have ever seen. The back is even better than the front. The gold guards and black knobs were added recently.

Paul, that looks like something that came from a container of Jello.
