Geddy was the big one for me. Of course growing up in the Toronto area meant that everyone and their dog listened to Rush, so it was kind of hard to avoid.
It's also great to see so many people who have listed Dave Gregory. Great player. English Settlement is a 12-string smorgasboard!

Cliff Burton and Paul McCartney for the bass.
The Beatles, REM, The Jam, Pete Townshend for guitar.

Mary-Chapin Carpenter and Gurf Morlix (guitarist for Lucinda Williams in her early days). The sound of Morlix's 330 through some tube amp is what did it for me.

Ummmm, the Fabs (of course), Rutles, Chris Squire and Geddy Lee.
Kenny: Once, while I was playing my 325v63 Jetglo, a fellow asked me if he could strum it. He had never seen a Rick in real life. Six months later, he shows me his new 360/12 Fireglo

Paul McCartney! At the time I bought my 4003, the C series didn't exist. If it had, I would have bought the C64S. I've thought of selling my 4003, but I hate the thought of doing that. So, I'll probably end up with two Rick basses!

Although I was very aware of the Beatles as a youngster/early teen... the combination of my having a musical interest and my Beatles fanaticism finally solidified around late 76/early 77 when I saw a poster of McCartney holding that 4001 of his. Like Fireglo/Timothy said... if a C64S had existed back then, I'd've bought one of those instead of the '77 MG4001 I did buy.
But man, I'll tell you... I was one happy Rickenbacker owner the day I picked up (touched/felt/smelled) that bass.
