Dan told me that he paid for it but Guitar Center wanted to hold it for 30 days to make sure it wasn't stolen ... to that sounds like a crock of **** ... I told him to go in and demand the bass because he has paid for it ...

"You can tell the 80s basses by the thicker horns"
My '93 4003MG has the thicker horns still.....

Jeff, In NY, when you (as a store) purchase a second hand item, you must keep it for 14 days before reselling.

I talked with the store yesterday. It is policy to hold the bass for 30 days, so I'll pick it up at the end of the month. It worked out for me because some potential buyers passed on it due to the wait period.
But I do think they should have kept it off the floor for the 30 day period.

I don't think that policy allies to Michigan ... but then again I've never seen a 5 string ric at my local guitar center ... if I did gas would kick in ...

I think that's the wrong way to go about it, they should keep it off the floor until it's good to sell. I agree with Dan.

Well, after the long wait, the bass is finally home!
First things first: I removed the thumbrest, took off the pickup guard, adjusted the neck, and put on a fresh set of strings.
Wow! what a great sounding bass! It's got a nice, tight B string, and a consistent sound across the fretboard. I thought the narrow string spacing would be a problem, but it's actually quite comfortable.
I dare say this may well become my #1 5 string!

yes they are truely awesome basses ... I have 7 5 string ric basses ... 6 of them are conversions and one is a modified 4003s5 ... the big problem is what do I play when I have a gig ... I only take 2 ... a good problem to have ...
