Actually I did read the whole thread after I wrote it and saw it was Jared but I don't want to write any off subject, irrelevant posts (ahemmm), you know how it is. Nice Marshall BTW.

thanks!
I like the old circuitry with the 5AR4 rectifier vs diodes. Less headroom tho...

I once had a Marshall Major head, about a 69, I don't remember whether it had diodes or rectifier tube, I think diodes, was one loud head.

1969 SVT heads with the 6146B power tubes are going for close to $2000.00 right now if they are in good original shape, they used both Emminence and CTS.

didn't the 6146's sound better than the 6550's? Although a lot harder to get.

According to Terry Budhinger who is an SVT afficianado and amp expert they have "more midrange grind that pick players especially like". I've never heard nor seen one except on ebay. I'd like to get one though. Get yer ya yas out is all 6146B SVT's including the guitars.
You can still find them fairly easily as they were used in a lot of ham transmitters, you can't get matched pairs though. They switched because the 6146B plates heated up when they were overdriven for long periods of time like The Stones did.

Gimme them KT88's from China!
If not, I'll settle for some GEC's...

I mean the whole inside of the tube got cherry red, your amp would have blown up if they had gotten that way or at least the tube itself would have disconnected from the circuit. SVT's sound good just about anyplace.
I've never tried KT-88's.

I'm trying too, failing miserably, I've found a lovely 1989 Fireglo (hmmmmmmmmm Fireglo) v63 in almost mint condition lined up which I'll pull the trigger on end of this month.
This will give me two v63's for on stage .. might string the second BEAD, or see if Jeff will undertake a 4-5 conversion, ok, I'm kidding so put the ropes down !!!!
On a similar note I just sprung for my first Calzone road case for "Rose" we're playing out more and more. I'll get some pics of it and post them. It's a beast at about 25 Lbs empty !!! My 63-reissue silver case is already showing signs of wear even though I'm carefull loading and unloading .... !!!!
