haha! A drummer I played with had a bright red mint restored Pacer a few years ago, I forgot the year but it was quite the conversation piece, inspired much merriment at his expense.

A Pacer would make a great fish tank in a loft...it's probably already been done...

Believe it or not, the legendary Porsche 928 was styled using an AMC Pacer as reference...you can see the similarity.

But the Porsche is a sort-of-classic shape. The Pacer is...

The Pacer is...

The Pacer is...

Oh, forget it.

Beefheart had a Pacer?

That's the best rumor we've started today.

Yes, the Mascara Snake. I deliberately set you up on that one, Dane. Sharp!

Beefheart drove a '73 Datsun pickup in bright blue. Mesa sticker on the back bumper.

"...Chevy '39, goin' to El Monte Legion stadium,
Pick up on my Weesa, she is so divine,
Helps me stealing hubcaps, wasted all the time.

Fuzzy dice, bongos in the back,
My Ship Of Love is ready to attack..."

That's a sixties car toon, ain't it?

Yep, but the Legion Stadium is long gone. (The Anglo powers-that-be in El Monte razed in in the '70s, because it was becoming a center of Latino power. Now El Monte is 90%+ Latino, with no stadium anymore, and a chunk of their history and identity gone forever.) That's real "progress".

"Cheap thrills in the backa my car
Cheap thrills how fine they are
Cheap thrills up and down my spine
I need it I need it 'cause it feels so fine...

"Cheap thrills Bompa diddy-ooh)"

Does anyone remember Hey Little Cobra by the Rip Chords? If memory serves me right they were a California group, but outside of this number I know nothing about them.

Peter, evidently the Rip Chords were an East Coast group and are still performing. BTW, check out the cover of their newest CD, "Hot Rod Days".

The Rip Chords were a West Coast studio group. Two of the members were Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher (Doris Day's son and the owener of the house in which Charlie Manson's cult murdered Sharon Tate, Voytik Frykowski, etc., also the house where Trent Reznor recorded an album. The new Rip Chords are such in name only.

Same for the new Charlie Manson, the new Trent Reznor, the new California Real Estate boom...

Can you imagine what prospective renters of the Melcher house might look like? Matching shoes on some groups, I'm guessin'...
