Interesting that nobody has mentioned "Yes It Is"...back in the 60s (when it was current) everybody I knew HATED it but I thought it was a very good and unique ballad for that time. And John sings his little heart out in the middle eight...

Maybe I should read your posts a little better.
I loved the way Lennon sang the middle of "This Boy" on "The Ed Sullivan Show" Miami I think? really put some feeling into it, he was a great singer when he let go.

Ahhh, you're breaking my heart! That's my favorite album (Capitol of course)and there isn't a bad song on it. Although they could have mixed the bass a little higher on that particular song.

Has anyone mentioned that even the Beatles "worst" songs were still invariably better than a lot of the other stuff on radio at that time?

Why did Paul write two songs called "Hold Me Tight"? One on With The Beatles and the other in the medley on Red Rose Speedway. Both suck. I love the Wildlife album! The song sucks but the rest I love.

"Cook of the House" and "Sea Side Woman". 'Nuff said. Although I love Linda, those songs are awful. "I Am Your Singer" is good though...

I don't think the Beatles had any real horrible clunkers, but some songs seem more... pointless than others. Like Savoy Truffle or Bungalow Bill. They're not exactly *bad* songs, but...

These post-Beatles songs almost always get the needle lifted:

It's So Hard
I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier
How Do You Sleep? (can't stand the acrimony!)
Woman is the Nigger of the World

Kreen Akore
Singalong Junk (again, pointless)
Mary Had a Little Lamb
Live and Let Die (like a coked up Uncle Albert)

"Live and Let Die (like a coked up Uncle Albert)"

What???? While I might agree with your other points, Ethan, this one is puzzling to me. Live and Let Die is one of the most rocking and fun songs to hear and play to me. I fail to see any connection musically between these songs.....coked up, notwithstanding.

I can see Ethan's point. I'm no fan of either for the same reasons, too many hooks, too many tempo changes, overblown instrumentation...
