Im not trying to dis the guy i was talking about. He can play. He just doesnt have much variety in what he plays.

Let's not be too critical of
anybody who plays an instrument or two, guys! Having a go at it is the first step - deciding on what you like and want to play is the second. If you're in a band, what the audience might like to hear is the third. I'm a guitarist (of sorts) who has recently bought a 4003 bass as a 'second fiddle' for want of a better term. My guitars are a 330/6, 660/12 and 350/6 (with a 360/6 on the way). I'm not into fretboard gymnastics and like experimenting with chord progressions and variations. I played a Framus bass back in the 60s and wanted to try it out again.
Distortion has its place, for sure, but I like to play 'clean' 60s and 70s stuff where you can't hide your shortcomings and mistakes. That makes me try doubly hard to get it right and therefore my technique has to be pretty much spot on!
I'm currently working on jazz stuff and it's the same story - you have to get it right - both guitar and bass!
I can understand your feelings about guitarists but let's not judge the entire cabbage patch on the basis of a few weeds, eh?
