I think a run of 50 or a 100 would be more realistic for a forum based instrument.
A 4005 is an eclectic instrument with nearly all probable demand coming from this forum. I would have thought a 4001V68, (or whatever it would be called!) would be a far more viable proposition with a much wider appeal.
JH has said before there is very little chance of either and even if there was it would be @ $4K buy.
You could of course put a little more money together and buy an original...

RIC made several 1000units limited editions thinking it was worth...why not a 1000/2000 units 4005/V65...and yes as Marc said "At this point, I'd probably be more interested in a re-issue 4005 than a vintage one"

Jeff,
Those shots of your old "68" are simply gorgeous, I get light headed each time I see them.
That look, that colour, that finish, and modern truss rods, fantastic combination.

someday I may regret selling it ... even though I made a $6350 profit ... that bass just begged to be played with a pick ...

I'd be up for a reissue 4005. As for a 68 reissue, maybe. I'm currently rebuilding my '79 to a more or less 68 spec, with toaster, horseshoe and checkerboard binding.
I'd go for the harder to get 4005 first.

Andrew ... that must be an OCT/NOV/DEC 1968 4001 one of the first to sport a high gain instead of the horseshoe pickup
