Do you think the Emp reads this forum?
The Bass is in NoHo, near me. Perhaps he'll show it?

Yep, my 72 has a white nut. My 73 has a black nut. So far as I can remember all the 70-72 Ricks I've seen have white nuts. My 72 also has non-wavy grovers, whereas my 73 has wavys.

I might have put in a more serious bid on this one if the seller had answered my emails.

(Not meaning to irritate you Ken, but I've wanted a Fireglo '72 for a long time! Image )

Congrats from the runner up, Ken! I think it was a good buy at that price. I would have bid higher if the seller would have returned my emails. He finally got back to me yesterday(after 6 days) with a phone number where he could be reached last night(he didn't respond to my questions via email), but I had plans and couldn't call.

And wouldn't you know...I've already been emailed an "offer" from some ******* within minutes of the auction's close claiming that you didn't have the funds and he would sell the Rick to me for my bid price. Ain't ebay cool?! Image

Here it is:

"You expressed interest in my item "1972 RICKENBACKER 4001 BASS FIREGLOW EXCELLENT W/CASE" (Item number: 7346419406) by bidding, however the auction has ended with another member as the high bidder, but he does not have the money to pay for it.The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy. Tell me if you are still interested in buying this item, the price will be your last bid on it.If you accept the offer just contact me to this email address: [email protected]. Do not reply through eBay because I will not be able to respond in due time ( problems with my email ), just copy and send this text to [email protected] or forword it for a faster response which will increase your chances to purchase this item.Thank you!"

Good luck with the '72, Ken. One of these days hopefully I'll find one too! Image

Well done Ken , she looks like a very special bass, I guess you had to get it as you just got the slit tailpiece!

Glad to see you outbid the Emperor. He would have been selling it for about 3.5K I'm sure.
