Leaving it at that is fine...

But, calling Mozart "really dumb" does require an explanation, I think...

In my opinion Mozart is not 'dumb'. Boring as all get out - yes! One exception - Elvira Madigan.

If I had my druthers it would be something from Beethoven onwards, including your fantastic 20th century American composers. Copeland, Barber, Cage, Bernstein, etc.....

"Screw you piggy?" My God, it's still 1968. Up against the wall!!! Let me get out my fringed buckskin coat!! Dumbed down his song? So you're implying that Paul wrote a version of "Fine Line" that is somehow more "artistic" and just decided not to release it because the current version would sound better in car commercial? Did you figure this out while watching your Zapruder footage of the JFK assassination? Because this is just as much a conspiracy theory. If McCartney wanted to sell out and dumb down, why not this:
"Yesterday, all my gasoline just burned away.
Now it costs a mere 3 quid a day
'Cause now I drive the Lexus way."

Or maybe this:
"The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Seems so much shorter now
Oh, hear my Lexus roar-or-or."

'Scuse me, I'm gonna go dumb down "Yummy Yummy Yummy" and try to sell it to Infiniti.

Keep in mind that the car is a HYBRID. It makes sense for Paul if you think about it.

Excellent point Mark. His next song might be a hummer, but not his car. Image

Here is McCartney's newest endeavour...

Paul McCartney and Fidelity Investments Announce U.S./Canada Marketing Partnership
Music Legend Debuts in New Fidelity Ad Launching Tomorrow in Both Markets

BOSTON/TORONTO, Sept. 7 /CNW/ - He has been a Beatle, Wing, painter,
poet, father, producer, knight, and if that weren't enough, Paul McCartney
will be featured in an international advertising campaign to help Fidelity
Investments address the ever-changing financial needs of investors. The
campaign debuts Thursday, September 8 with a 30-second television ad in Canada
on English language television during CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on the
CTV Network and in the U.S. during a special edition of ABC's Monday Night
Football. The ad will debut on French language television in Canada the week
of September 12th on several season premieres including Les Invincibles and
Zone Libre on SRC.
The ad, titled "This is Paul," takes viewers on a chronological tour of
McCartney's life and notable accomplishments. The addition of a celebrity is a
new dimension to Fidelity's award-winning campaign that tells the stories of
investors with actual photos of their personal milestones using musical
backdrops that appeal to all ages.

I don't begrudge him or any artist who wants to maximize his/her's earning potential. I get a bit peeved though when I see older tv stars spokesperson schleping reverse mortgages. Trying to gain the trust of older folks, like the spokesperson really has done a reverse mortgage to meet their financial needs B>S>, as Imus would say don't yank my chain

If we're talking senior stars schelping products, McCartney isn't exactly too young to vote.

What else could he promote? Let's see some suggestions based on his song titles!

BTW, I don't think it's a bad thing. Just thought he didn't do that sort of thing (no signature rick!). It's ok apparently to do commercials in Japan, but not the west?

As usual, the consumer has the ultimate power of rejection. Don't like the product? Don't buy it. If McCartney's hawking $8 a loaf bread but you can get bread for $2 a loaf, why buy McCartney's bread? Unless you plan to keep it for 20 years and sell it on Ebay, that is.

It's funny given that Paul's personal car is a Mercedes S600.

Look...for the last time, I hope, and nice and slow so it can be comprehended: I am not saying he dumbed down a song he already wrote in order to sell it to Lexus. I'm saying he dumbed down his entire approach to songwriting when he no longer worked with another guy who tried to keep him out of Tin Pan Alley...

You guys like what he's been doing ever since, that's fine...you like his newly unveiled commercial side, fine...you find that Mozart fills your intellectual needs, excellent...

I don't know why it should cause you any concern that I happen to find these things lame. I don't buy Macca's music, I'm not driving a Lexus, and I don't plan to invest in anything with the word Fidelity in the name. If you would enjoy life more if I just kept quiet about it, well okie-dokie...I don't want to ruin anybody's day in this best of all possible worlds.

Just leave my fringed buckskin jacket out of this, willya? I don't make fun of your Nike baseball hats and Dockers, do I?
