As long as we're dreaming, I just want two - my own signature models. Through-neck, but with hollow body wings glued-on to make them look nice and keep the weight down, 360 double-bound-ish body shape, checkerboard binding, guitar-style headstock shape with binding, twin Toasters, wired individually - all the way out to two jacks, two cords and separate amp channels, gold guards and TRC, crushed pearl inlays on the fretted one, varnished, polished fingerboard on the fretless with a few position markers on the sides of the fingerboard, but nothing on the face. Might even go for Humbuckers on the fretless instead of toasters to see if we could coax a little of that Pedulla-style whine out of it. Color? Rootbeerburst! - just a tiny bit browner than Brugundyglo and fading to super dark brown, almost black, at the edges. Oh well, a boy can dream, can't he? The really scary thing is that if they actually were nuts enough to make them, I'd be in the process right now of figuring out how to afford them.

I guess I'm the odd one...nothing really eats at me for GAS now. Image For a while a picture of someone's bugundy 75 4001 FL piqued my interest, until a few weeks ago when I got a chance to noodle on Andrew Winter's fretless...really nice bass, but something about a Rick fretless didn't feel right.

First time I saw a pic of a 4004 Ci I drooled, less so now since I have a new Laredo. But I imagine the tone on a Ci would be different due to the wood differences and the PU placement.

And I'm not trying to be blasphemous, but the next bass I get might be a Fender P or J. But probably not, I'll probably put some beefy humbuckers in my fretless J so it has about the same output as the 4004 and be happy with 3 basses.

My dream basses, hmm, let's see:

Of course, we have to start with Squire's RM1999! Image

Then a Walnut 4002, Mike Rutherford's custom doubleneck 12/bass, my 4004Cii with the neck made slimmer by RIC to feel more like my '73 4001, and finally, Jon Camp's 4001, as it was back in the early '70s.
