Oh, Freddie was certainly over the top at times. Very camp, very gay if you wish to call him that. But, none of that takes away his place as a performer and commanding a stage, that everyone else simply has to take second billing.
I've seen them all over the years, and no one ever came close to Mercury.

Well, Barry Manilow's the one gettin' the Vegas show for life...and popularity trumps all other arguments, doesn't it?
Roll over, Tschaikowski...

You know theres alot of shear talent out there musically Prince, to me is a genius I think hes a great song writer and performer hes not the same type of music, RB I guess but I never hear him get the praise he deserves..there are so many in different category's,for rock there are so many, Freddie was definitely one of the greats but incredibly gay,the guy from Firehouse has a great voice Steve Perry one of the all time great voices...Dakken..Aldo Nova,Warrant, shooting star..Skid Row.....Night Ranger...

Hey, I love Barry Manilow. Seriously! But then I love most stuff...sorry! Loved DLR in Van Halen, liked Sammy much better on his own, love Daltry, and Mr Mercury was indeed a fantastic performer, although in Queen he found the perfect place to express his talents. Not sure he'd have worked in Floyd
Personally I'd have to go with Stevie Nicks or Agnetha and Frida. What? FrontMEN? Oh, sorry.
Oh, and I also like basses with stickers on...and those without. (Sorry. Not-so-closet punk-jazz-rock-popster). In fact one of the few things I don't like is heights...
This post was brought to you by the number 5 and the word "sorry"...I'll get my coat....

Ken, Prince is simply a musicial genius. Whether you like his music or not, you have to admit anyone who can do what he does, playing 28 or so different instruments, writing, arranging, producing and being an electric live performer is worth something.

Prince may be a genius but I simply can't listen to even one of his songs all the way through ...

I can listen to his songs okay...but some of his video makes me cringe. It's porn without nudity...
Then again, so was Freddie Mercury...

"Freddie was definitely one of the greats but incredibly gay . . ."
How is that an issue though? Rob Halford of Judas Priest is gay (albeit not flaming), and he's a brilliant performer.
Mercury was, I think, a better performer *because* of his flamboyance. Same with Bowie.

A new term is required, I think: "flamformer".
"What a virtuoso flamformance!"

The problem with Freddy is, I can't watch him, he's too "over the top"! Go Roger..
Notice nobody mentioned Plant?
