I have to say, if "Court" was the first LP you ever bought, you have a first-rate pedigree! (What drew you to it...the fantastic cover art?) I gotta wonder what's in the rest of your setlist...

Hi Jo, A guy at school had the album. I loved the cover and, at that time, quite liked the music. I had been buying singles for a few years so was into music. My first single was You Really Got Me by the Kinks, I was 7 years old...!

Our sax player has pushed off to Moscow for 3 weeks, but he has sorted a dep for our gigs. This means that I won't be able to post the track on the net, but, even better I am happy to burn a handfull of CD's and send them out by snail mail. Actually, wasn't it Ian McDonald who did sax on that first album? I though Mel Collins only showed up for "Lizard" and afterwards . . .

Bobcat...you're absolutely right; I stand corrected. Now then...wasn't it Ian McDonald who wound up a founding member of Foreigner? That makes for a bizarre discography...perhaps rivalled only by that of Boz Burrell...

Collins was already on "In The Wake Of Poseidon". Ian McDonald was considered to be a band member again at the time of "Red" (he plays that album along with Collins) but then Fripp disbanded the group. What a pity, Fripp-Wetton-Bruford-McDonald would have been an interesting line-up.

I'm just glad McDonald didn't talk them into covering "Hot Blooded"...

HAHAHAHA!!! I can just see Fripp mouthing, "WTF?!?!" Oh dear . . . also, wasn't Mel Collins also in one of those arena rock bands later on? I believe Boz Burrell, who sang on "Islands" was a founding member of Bad Company.

Yup, that's what I'm gettin' at....ol' Boz went from singing stuff like "Impaled on nails of ice..." to "I cain't git enuff o' yo' luv..."

Don't know about Mel Collins in an arena rock band....you sure you're not thinking of Phil?

Yeah, you're right. Ian McDonald was a founding member of Foreigner (and also played on T.Rex's "Bang a Gong"). Boz Burrell was a founding member of Bad Company. Mel Collins went on to do session work with a bunch of different bands, including Camel and the Rolling Stones. He and McDonald (who left Foreigner after only a couple of albums) are now in the 21st Century Schizoid Band.

At least we can safely say that not all of King Crimson's members went on to make cheesy top 40 power ballads . . . Greg Lake went to ELP, Trey Gunn formed the Trey Gunn Band, Bruford started Earthworks, and Gordon Haskell is now a blues/soft rock singer. Ah, the memories . . .

The Current lineup of King Crimson uses the stick to much ... I prefer a real bass guitar ...

Well, I can't say that Asia (and ELP, for that matter) didn't make some 'cheesy top 40 power ballads'..."Heat Of The Moment" is not exactly "Larks' Tongues...".

I do agree with you though, Jeff...I like what can be done with a Stick, but I miss the real bass as well. I kind of feel the same way about Fripp's total reliance on guitar synth these days...I miss hearing what he (and only he) can do with a straight guitar presentation.

McDonald has said that Fripp was planning all along on breaking the group up while making Red, and that Fripp only asked him if he'd tour just to see what he'd say.
Also, he didn't quit Foreigner...he was ousted. Apparently he showed up for a scheduled band recording session, and no one was there...pretty subtle,eh? OUCH!

One year before i saw John Wetton with KC I saw him at the same venue ( The Colston Hall, Bristol) with Uriah Heap. Very 'eavy.......
