For anyone who wants to get a lush growling Rick tone, forget the amp EQ. Get a 3 band parametric EQ. Crank up the middle at about 1.2 KHz and a bit of bass at around 80-100Hz. Listen to the Rick ROAR!!!
Probably work for a Jazz too, with a bit of fiddling.
A parametric really makes the difference, a nice warm tone.
Geddy uses a Furman one on ESL....
I think that speaks for itself!

I got the DVD and it is sweet! I especially like the vault stuff. It's nice to see Geddy with a rick. His tone on circumstances and la villa strangiato is KILLER!!!

I am watching this a bit at a time, as I unpack my gear from the job the night before...

"Closer to the heart" on the vault section has the guitar player form the Bare Naked Ladies, and a "special person" who plays along with Rush. I found it touching...Does anyone know the back story to that? Was it for a foundation???

the "special person" isn't actually a "special person" he's a character from a tv show. he's an actor on the Canadian show Trailer Park Boys (very hilarious show) and his character, Bubbles, is a huge Rush fan (Rush were even in one episode of the show). The video was used in a Canadian benefit concert for the tsunami that hit indonesia (not sure if that's the actual place but it hit somewhere around there) a few years back.

I believe so. I can't remember what charity it was for, though . . .

Yeah, okay, it was the Tsunami Benefit thing . . . it hit Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, and several other places . . . Indonesia and Sri Lanka were the hardest hit, I believe.

yeah I know what you mean dave...I suppose it would be easy for someone who is not familiar with the show to think what you thought. Everybody up here in Canadia knows about The Trailer Park Boys but I'm thinking you Americans don't get the show.

I've been watching CBC for a LONG while, it's not on that channel, is it?

It's on one of the channels down here at like 11pm. I've only stayed up to watch it once, but I love how they were chasin someone and they pushed the guy with the boom mic out of the way.
