You California people don't even know what "cold" is.....LOL!

Sorry guys.... didn't mean to depress you. I love this time of year - late spring means lovely sunny days in the 80s and cool nights - perfect weather for 'barbies and beer'.

The impending onset of winter can be sooooo depressing, especially if you feel you've been robbed of a decent summer! How were you relative summers, BTW?

Melissa, I lived near Moorehead for a few months one winter...and the other 29 of my first 30 in Chicago, which can get pretty brutal.

Aitch, our summer here in the Bay area was great. Both weeks of it...

This morning here in Mill Valley. it was 40 degrees F when I poked my head out. The air smelled like it must up there in Grand Marais (but a few degrees warmer!)--pine trees, leaf mould, crispness. But when I look out my living room window I can see bright orange maples and royal palms to go with all the pine trees. Far from depressing. And it was around 65 F at noon in the city, where I was busily sniffing paint fumes.

A day of olfactory contrasts...

Wow, Paul, I think the temp was about the same here this morning, but here it was really icky and rainy with a damp bone-chilling east wind off Lake Superior--It's been a good day for hibernating indoors by the fireside and jangling out a new song....

Our summer in Grand Marais was one of the best we've had in a long time: Lots of warm sunny days with very little rain, and almost always a cool refreshing breeze like a blessing to keep us from getting hot and miserable.... When the weather is nice in Grand Marais, it is like heaven, but it only lasts for about three months if we're fortunate.

When I was in Seattle in June 2002 I was told that I'd been there for the entire summer - all 3 days of it!! I was there for 10 days and it only rained on 3 of them - how lucky was that?

At the Boeing plant at Everett our tour guide told us that they don't need heating in winter - all the body warmth takes care of that. Somebody asked him what they did in summer when it gets hot - he said they open all those bloody great big doors for the few days necessary!!

Having spent the last 19 years here in Seattle, (moving from Vegas), I've heard all of the usual Seattle rain jokes. The truth is, we like to keep this image up. Prevents massive influx of Californians (I grew up in So Cal.

But Howard, someone should have told you that summer officially starts here on July 5th. (We have rainy 4th tradition.) June is not technically part of our summer, which usually runs until October. But don't tell anyone...

June in Seattle was great, Seth. Quite frankly, I loved the place and the people - looking forward to getting back there for a few days next year!

Yes. He's making a visit to the Okanagan. The jewel of Canada. Don't tell anyone though cause we don't want a bunch of people moving here either!
