Question for hipshot bridge owners
Moderators: rickenbrother, ajish4
This sounds very promising, just what the doctor ordered!!Sounds like it will solve many problems with intonation.I like the RIC tailpiece including the mute (its there if you want to use it). There is I believe perhaps enough room from where the strings come out the tailpiece to the back of the mute assembly to have a saddle like assembly like that of the HIPSHOT tailpiece.A combo of both,as in early RIC 4000 tailpices and FENDER etc...taking away the current saddle/heighth module assembly.
It would look exactlly the same except for the presence of the new screws with saddle attachments. The best of both worlds!Old and somewhat new.Complete range of intonation so to speak which is very important if you have the best and want the best sound and setup/intonation.EVERYONE HERE WANTS TO KEEP RIC WITH RIC !!No aftermarket mix and matching.I have a HIPSHOT tailpiece and had it on for awhile and took it off and put on the orig.after working the saddles over, ala MARK ARNQUEST,so now I have more travel range to work with for intonating.
IT CAN BE DONE !Thank you for this forum and members!

"The part retrofits any 4 or 5 stringer without modification......"
Drats!!!!.......no mention of us 8 stringers. The intonation issues on mine are slight but I would certainly like to improve it. I have an idea on how to alter a Ric bridge but haven't had the time to get it machined yet.....I'll have to get to it I suppose.

I would never put a non-RIC part on any of my RIC's but I did put a Hipshot Ricky bridge on the Electra MPC bass I'm modifying to look like Squire's. It seems these basses came with 4000 series copy tailpieces on them. Adjustability is fine but I almost couldn't get the action low enough. I found that I was able to modify my stock RIC bridge and tailpeice assemblies to work fine. I don't see how the same bridge could be used for four and five stings but if you made the tailpiece with one long slot all of the way accross the back where the strings go through like the old 4008's,and put the extra hole in the rear for the "A" string for five string use, I could see it being used for 4 or 5 strings. If it were CNC'd out of stainless steel and polished it would be cool!
