I have several chrome tailpieces and stainless steel bridges for a 4003-5



I take stock 4003 pickups and remove the 2 center poles and install 3 pole pieces



then I get a carvin 6 srting bass nut and trim off the High C portion and shim it and I remove the tuners and replace them with Schaller m4 or Gotoh and add one more tuner in the headstock ...



and of course you have to intonate and set up the bass

How much do you charge for a 5 string bridge? I've only ever seen 4s. Good idea about the nut - I used a standard precut nut and used a set of nut files to make my stingray a 5 string. The Carvin nut sounds a lot easier.

how much for a bridge ... with 5 saddles and screws lets say an even $50 ... they are designed to fit in an allparts tailpiece but they will fit in a Ric tailpiece if you make the the holes where the allen screws fit in larger in the tailpiece ...

I could use a set of those saddles to widen the string spacing of my S/5.

Aren't you risking fret-out by doing that, especially with the floppy-ish B? I wonder because I tend to fret-out my E on my 4001, and I have a pretty light touch. I'm thinking of getting a nut with a narrower jazz-bass style spacing to eliminate this.

I don't sell the tuners and nuts ... you can schaller or gotoh tuners at many fine resellers like allparts ... I am not a retailer ... I have a stash of spare parts for my workshop ... you can get nuts from Carvin, Warmoth, allparts and others ...

But I can sell bridges and saddles ... or you can get saddles from Ric and grind them down a few mm to fit a 5 string bridge ... I also modify a 4 string tailpiece into a 4003s5 tailpiece with a dremel tool ... the results are not cosmetically perfect ... but I would give it an 8 out of 10 ...

Jo ... I don't understand the fretting out question ... the bridge has 2 height adjustment screws to keep it from fretting out ... my mod just widens the string spacing a little ... the up and down is still fully adjustable ...
