I think it's a trick test put out by the Fender maffia.
Of all my answers and I get a P-Bass?!?!?
Seems that a 4000 through a couple of SVTs and they
think thats a P-Bass
LOL
Just because I've never busted a peg head....
Well, Would anyone here wanna break a peghead on any Ricky made prior to 1970?!?!?

It's those Fender people, thats what it is.
They're watching us oh yes...
And then the aliens will come too, you'll see........

I tried three times! P-Bass, P-Bass, P-bass!
Does that mean I should sell my Jazz and V63 and get a Precision?
Probably not!

I kept getting P bass as well. It's probably because I chose slap. Rics can slap with the best of them.

I came out a P-bass..

It's a great picture though! If I switched Jack Bruce to Chris Squire, and left everything else the same I came out a 4001!

I was disappointed to see there wasn't a chick holding the 4001!

I actually wanted a P bass when I first started playing... then I got a 4001 instead...
P-bass recordings tend to sound a hell of a lot more anonymous than jazz bass recordings.

Hmmmm, take a listen to some Gentle Giant then! Ray Shulman got a great P-bass sound.

P basses have been more prevalent than Jazz basses for a long time... back in the 70's I rarely saw people with Jazzes.

It's only more recently that every one plays a Jazz. I really dislike that skinny nut! Put a P neck on a Jazz.. now that's a nice bass!

The magic is in the player, not the bass. Jaco would have been just as awesome playing a washtub bass (well maybe). That does not mean that the instrument can't give something back to the player and further heighten the experience.

Very true Ted!

I know I pretty much sound like me no matter what bass I'm playing.

Bass is good! Image

Oh, I listen to Gentle Giant. They're amazing, though I have to be in the right mood for that kind of music (it's the same with Zappa). I'll admit that that P-bass sound is great, but it's really not your typical use of a P-bass. Also, the bass is mixed pretty loud on their recordings, and they don't typically play any instruments that cover up the bass (i.e. lots of overdriven guitar, heavy drumming, and so on).

In my opinion, it's just much easier to make a J-bass cut through, and of all the recordings that I've heard, P-basses tend to be the most undistinctive. Maybe it's just because they're always mixed into the background. However, the only thing I've heard that was more anonymous, as I put it, was John Myung's bass tone on Dream Theater's "Train of Thought" album, which is unfortunate, because, his tone is amazing on the next album, yet it's the same bass.

My Ricks give me thrill when I see them. There is another thrill when I touch them and yet another when I hear them. All experiences then inspire me to play and coax out musicial expressions that I never imagined. Others are so moved by their brands of choice. For me it's a Rickenbacker.

I'm in the same boat as you, Ted.

So why then, when I ask the all-knowing Bass-Quiz God which bass is best for me does he answer "a P-bass?"

WHY?? WHY?? WWWWHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY??

(he collapses into the corner quivering in a puddle of tears.)

I picked Squire and something about a chainsaw. I like thin necks and have never broken off a headstock (knock on maple) so I came out 4001.

I'm a Precision, which actually IMO is on par with my '97 4003.
But to be clear, it is the true single coil Precision Bass (the SCPB) not to be confused with the split pickup Precisions, which are real good but not as good IMO as the singles. The ones with the Telecaster headstocks.

Precision too...odd, I have a J Bass...and a Laredo, and a 4001. No P bass...

Maybe that has to be my next Jones.
