"(years and years of "say cheese")"
LOL! I don't do that.. if I point a camera at someone I say "Say Geddy Lee!". That'll get a laugh. Hence my email address. I got that from a movie.. hehe.
I like the look of the 'shoe' pickup without the 'shoe'. That pickup looks better than a high gain, but I'm not spending $400 on one.

for my ears the reissue horseshoe pickup sounds similar to a 4003 high gain ...

"I like the look of the 'shoe' pickup without the 'shoe'. That pickup looks better than a high gain..."
Why thanks, Nate. Most people on the forum seem to consider it a crime to remove the 'shoes, but for me it was the only way to go. I like the look of the 70's surrounds better as well, but looks aren't the reason I changed it. The new pickup surrounds with the "scooped" string cutout have sharp edges that bug my fingers. I know...I'm high-maintenance! I guess its from playing my original Rick 4001 for over 20 years. Anything that's not familiar throws me for a loop.
Say hi to NZ for me Nate, that place is way too pretty for its own good. I flew into Christchurch in '95 and spent a week on the South Island. I'd like to get back. I was a little nervous though driving on the wrong side of the road with the stickshift in my left hand!

Yeah, but...I have one that I paid around that for in 1992. I've ridden it over 18,000 miles and in at least 10 countries. Buy a good one and it will last a long time!(and put a lot of smiles on your face when you're not wailin' on that Rick!)

Mr X. is an old friend of mine (of about 25 years) who reads this forum regularly but does not participate. He is a bit of a privacy stickler. He owns 3 Rick basses including this one...
This picture is horrible but you get the idea. The bass is superbly figured. It is the one that Mike Parks had about 2 years ago. I think it is still on his site. He also has two LH 4001s (AG and FG) and one LH 320 in JG. His collection includes an Alembic, two Fenders, an odd Hofner, and two G&Ls.

I always loved that TR 4004Cii! Too bad it wasn't a righty, it would be mine.

He salivated over it for months. His wife said no but then secretly bought it for his birthday. It stayed at my house for nearly 3 months and I could not say a word about it.
