Yes, it is a good deal. This shop is defineatly NOT trying to screw anyone. The shop is in the basement of his home in a great neighborhood. He has been doing repair work for just over 25 years now, and wants to give quality work for a very fair price. Naturally, customers come back to people like himself.
He actually did know about the 4001 rods vs. just about any other truss rod. He told me that he did actually get the neck to straighten out more (even though the forward bow wasn't too bad to begin with), but couldn't get it to be perfectly straight like new since he had the rod nuts cranked down to the maximum. It is defineatly noticeable and a much better playing instrument. Playing past the 4th/5th fret without getting the tune messed up because of having to adjust to a higher string height is a good thing.
