The near mint '79 4001 I inherited from my father was bought with a '70's Les Paul and a Peavey Classic 50 watt 4x10 for only $1000 total. This was about a decade ago.
On a side note - When he took the 4001 to Nashville someone walked up to him after he finished playing it and offered him $1000 for it, thankfully he turned them down.

Hmmm, the cheapest RIC I ever bought cost me about $450. It was a '75 430. a couple of years ago. Also bought a '75 481 JG for $500. 7 years ago. The rest were much more.

I spent $80 at a LA garage sale in 1998 for a Model 1000, which I gave to nephew as a Christmas present that year.

That kid looks eerily like I did at his age. Lucky guy to have an uncle like you! :^)

I bought my first Rick a 4000 JG (new) in '69 for somewhere around $300. I can't remember exactly how much. I did trade in a '62 or '63 P-bass for it. I wish I still had both of those now.
I purchased a '87 610 for $550 on the bay about four years ago.

Bought my 1984 330 brand new for $550. One of the best Rickenbackers I've ever played, and I still have it.
I paid about the same for a superclean '69 Electro ES-17 a few years ago.
I bought my mapleglo '66 330/12 for a mere $850 in 2001; the guy I bought it from paid $300 for it in 1987!

in 1986 I got a 1980 360/6 FG for around $500 in New Hampshire. Similar ones sell for around $850 - $950 today... not an overly huge change in price, considering.
....oh... a few years ago I was given a 90's era 660/12 MG for a birthday present .... or does that not count? I suppose I paid for it one way or another, just not in cash.

I got my first Ric in 1969. It was a 1966 330/12 MG, and was a great guitar. The seller wanted $275.00 cash. I traded him my '68 Telecaster for it plus $100.00 cash - all the money I had in the world at that time.
I traded it in 1971 for a new Guild D35 valued at $235.00. Oh well...
