I've heard all kinds of things about when these will start being built, from this year to a full year and a half at the soonest.

Kevin, from here, it looks like one-half of a 1996. Is it the right half or the left, I wonder?

Paul, I don't know yet! It was cold here this morning and I will not open the inner box until tomorrow. I can't wait to see it, whichever half it is! Maybe it is a front or a back half. At least I will be able to see the X bracing then.

Err, is there X bracing in a 1996? Only time will tell, unless Kevin gets antsy!

On Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 05:59 am,
Atsushi Yoshida (Oyoyobeatle)wrote:
"The guitar has good edge shapes, each pick-up has Dimple!! And roller-bridge with bridge cover hold by slotted-bolts. Under the Accent-Vib, there are two rubber-dumper to the body like original's. And there is no "Slot" on the side of the trem-unit. Dual-truss-rods, but not in old style. Very thin top with X-bracing...."
I was just going by that comment from someone who saw the 1996 on display in Japan.

I'm thinking that Atsushi may be wrong. I doubt if theres a need for x-bracing in these. If I'm wrong, well....I've been wrong before, lol. Let us know when you unpack it , willya?

John,
It is not really "X" bracing. It is one brace that goes diagonally across the body. Maybe it is more like "I" bracing. It starts aft of the soundhole and extends to foward of the control cavity. It can be seen in the bridge pickup route.Very cool guitar.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Kevin and I were each half right!

If it does have that brace, then the guitar is built like an older Capri, and must have a fairly thin top.
I did not take a close look at the newly-minted one I saw at RIC in November. Kicking myself a bit now.
Ouch!

I finally opened the box and there was a whole guitar in the case. I am relieved!

Jonathan is correct about the bracing. The top appears to be about the same thickness as my 1996 Fireglo 325V63 f hole reissue though. Here they are together:
Look at the other "thing" I found when I looked inside!
