Owner of a lonely heart, Starship trooper, and some others with weird "visual effect"... and Squire's dances are... shall we say... well... you know... "weird"...

We are talking about "YES: The Movie" right?

All the techniques and gear mentioned will work, but there's one more crucial ingredient for getting "the Chris Squire sound": Bill Bruford.

Boxers or briefs for the Squire sound?
This thread has really run it's course.

'68-'73: briefs.
'74-Present: boxers.

I dunno, Squire sounds very Squire-ish (it's kind of weird how we think that newer Squire doesn't sound like himself) on Tales, Relayer, Going for the One, and Drama, all of which had Alan White. For that matter, he sounded very Squire-ish on "Mind Drive" and "That, That Is" as well, once again with Alan White.

It's a most subjective subject...but for me, something changed when Squire's bass stopped having to battle Bruford's snare for sonic supremacy.

I just miss those days, that's all...

Another essential part required for the "Squire sound.." Eddie Offord.

I'll agree with that one. Offord = studio god.

I got a good Squire sound tonight at our bands New Years Eve gig. I used my SansAmp Bass Driver with my 4003MB. I was very satisfied at the full, yet grinding tone that I got. I string my 4003 with DR Lo-Rider nickel strings. I'm wondering now how my V63 with Chromes flats would sound like this. Anyway, I was quite pleased, as I had never attempted to try that sound before.
