With all those tone controls on your amps I can see why you don't need VVT controls on the basses!

After having basses with individual tone controls for each pickup (2 4001s, 4005WB, 4001V63, 4003FL, stack knob Jazz Bass) and only one master tone control (2 three knob Jazz Basses, 2 Alembics, Yamaha BX-1 and BX-5, 4004Cii, California Precision Bass Special, 3 Zon basses, 2 Telecaster Basses, Gibson Ripper), I find no need for the individual tone controls, unless of course, I were running Rick-O-Sound, which I don't. In the end I found them redundant, if I wanted the tone rolled off, it was a global need, not for only one pickup.

My current pedalboard has a Demeter Compulator instead of the Boss Compressor/Sustainer and the Boss Hypermetal is gone with the EBS Bass IQ in it's place. Plenty of tone variation and the Ampeg SVP-Pro has a nice range available as well. It's as simple as I can get things and still keep actual "needs" intact.

I used to have a pedal rack like that but I had signal loss with that many cords and connections ... with the Pod I have one cord in and one out ...

I had a Bass Pod XT Pro and switched back to my pedalboard (and updated it).......it's good thing there is enough out there to make us all happy.

Anyone know Omar Rodriguez-Lopez? The guitarist from the Mars Volta . . . he owns over 250 different effects pedals, knows exactly what they all do, and uses them all, though only about 25 or so per show . . . but seriously, he just looks through all his pedals before each show and goes, "That one, that one, those three, that one . . ." That is, of course, how he gets all those weird, scary sounds.

That being said, his guitar is a custom Ibanez that has one single-coil pickup, no tremolo, one volume knob, and a button for a built-in tape delay effect, and his amp setup, I believe, is just an Orange head and cab. He's wild.

I'm wondering. Is there a way to wire the neck pickup to maybe 8 or 9 max and keep it with only one volume knob? I think only having one nob would help me a bit (turning down two pickups is annoying) but having the neck back a bit would help with the growl.

wire your bass with a master volume and a blend control ...

I'm confused... what does that do? Would that be three knobs? Or one stacked one and a tone knob?

Either way would work. The stack knob mod is reversible where the other is not.
