"all 4001 basses have no tilt in the headstock ... starting in 1980 the 4003 got a tilt ... another improvement ..."
No Jeff, my '75 has a rearward tilt, but '60's basses come off straight, unless they have been worked on/modified. I appears in that Vid that the headstock on THIS particular instrument tilts back. Evidence of repair/upgrade? I don't know only an observation. (I've wondered if at the time the headstock repair was done if someone put a bit of a back-angle to get better string tension across the nut.

Squire told me when Rickenbacker first made his 8 string the headstock was set up with all full size bass tuners. Chris explained tuning was awkward and there was not enough space between tuning pegs. Rickenbacker re-fit the bass with smaller sized tuners for the 4-octave strings. Only problem was the shape of the headstock did not work for one of the octave strings tuner . The shaft of the tuner was not long enough to clear the headstock. Rickenbacker had to scallop a cutout for the tuner so the tuner could be turned. All other 8 string 4001 bodied Rickenbacker basses that were made had a correctly shaped headstock that worked with the smaller octave tuners. On Chris’s bass the shape of the headstock is a little different than the photo on this thread. Plus the fact the bass has yellowed a ton. The headstock cutout gives the potato (as you guys call it) an even weirder shape.
