Yes, but which direction did he face in the studio?

Jerry,
just one thing: John would not have used the 325 Hamburg , but the 325 Miami.
The Miami played over a Fender amp with reverb?
I am not too sure...
To me it's probably the Sonic Blue Fender with round wounds.
And McCartney on Rickenbacker bass?
Yes, we will never know. At least we have the record...

I guess all these recordings took place before 1966, so Geoff Emerick isn't likely to reveal anything in his new book?

That picture of George 'studying' that Rick-12 headstock is priceless. Anyone that's owned a Rickenbacker 12-string has been there. You've got to admit it's not that easy changing strings and it's much better to change them one at a time or you could get lost.

John and George didn't get their Casinos until early 1966.

Day Tripper was recorded in Autumn 1965.

Ooops... looks like I mistook the Epiphone Casino (shown in that pix) for the for the Gibson ES-345 which is the guitar that Harrison used to play (IMHO). They're pretty much the same body, eh? The biggest give-away being the tuner headstock shape. Also the tailstock... where George has put a Bigsby. George also removed the pickguard.

i believe the casino is true hollowbody where the gibson has a center block. the casino also had p90s which will definitely have its own sound.

i have a revolution casino and i can not get the daytripper sound on it.

I always thought the Vox hi-boost circuit was the key to the Day Tripper sound...
BTW...do they really sing "she's a big teaser" on the song? I heard it was something a bit more smutty, yet another Beatle In-Joke.

I stole a drummer from a band of younger guys when I was a senior in high school.

The lead singer in this younger band was the guy who transcribed all their lyrics from records. He never got anything right, it seemed.

I went to hear them rehearse. In "Day Tripper, the guy sang "she's a big cheese-ah". He sang the last lines of "white rabbit" as "be a man" instead of "feed your head"...

Wolfgang -- of course, you are completely correct, JL would have used the 325 Miami, not the 325 Hamburg. I just made that comparison because I don't have a Miami, but I do have a Hamburg -- and I feel I'm getting the correct "sound" of the rhythm guitar with it. In reality, I know I can't make that definitive because I don't have both guitars. So my disclaimer, as always, is that it sounds right to me.

But I do agree with those who say he faced left. He didn't face right until the "White Album".
