Thanks for the tip Jeff, I am thinking for my project that I can use any decent carcass and have the mods done, but the more correct the project is to start, the less expensive it will be...plus easier to keep a secret till it's done

Darren, are the bridge p/up surounds on both of those basses original? I notice that they are both recessed; my Nov. 72 4001 has a non-recessed surround...

As I mentioned before this bass is not too far away from me. If anybody is interested I can see if I can take a look at it. The gradient does not look right to me. I wish there were more pictures. The pics he has vary from front to back. The back looks less blown out. I darkend the front pic but it still doesn't look right.

The inlays look full width to me and the off color I think is just from a lousy digital camera. I think it's real although it does look a little too shiny for a 73, don't you guys read the ads? MC is right in the ad. I live about an hour away also.

The thing I find bothersome, but not major, is the
neck/body delamination by the heal.

That is pretty common on them and could just mean that the two pieces of wood expanded or contracted at different rates and cracked the paint, who knows?.

I've seen a Ric with the heel/body wings delamination, it caused the action to raise considerably. Not the easiest thing to fix, especially with transparent finishes.

John, The recessed pickup surrounds on both basses are original as far as I can tell.

I've had to fix that before...

My point is that in light of all the other stuff, as long as we're picking this thing to pieces, I would raise that issue as well.

Yeah, I had e-mailed him. I'd like to know for sure if the inlays are cushed MOP or not. He has not responded, although, I did notice he changed the listing to a 73.
