If they are truly your friends at Guitar Center they should have been on the phone to Rickenbacker themselves, even if there salespeople were less than knowledgeable (which is by and large the case from what I have experienced in person). I work in a music store and if there were any question as to the authenticity of anything I sold, we would have taken it back, no questions asked, and probably given you a free set of strings or a fantastic deal on something else, at the very least. It's up to them to prove that the bass IS authentic, not on you to prove otherwise. Good luck!
