Yeah, scroll down for the thread "Redneck on ebay" and go to the Feb 23 message from John Williams. I still want to get rights for that photo for my book. Does anyone know the source?

That "someone else" is Mike Campbell, guitarist for the Heartbreakers. Tom is holding the 8-string.
I think that has got to be a RIC promo shot, it's too "posed" not to be professionally done.

Marc, first of all - congrats, and second, IIRC there were only 38 Rednecks made. Some were 8 string versions. I think that Kendall James (dedgoat) had all the details.

Thanks Ilan,

Funny, it comes with a certificate that it's part of an edition of 125

Marc, the photo's on the auction are original. The guy has been on ebay for 5 years. I would not get too concerned yet. Did you send the money to an address or a P.O. box???

I sent it to his home address. Actually, I just got his home phone number as well. John Simmons promised to go over and break his legs if he doesn't deliver.

The other thing I worry about is someone else coming up with the check and cashing it.That's why as much as some folks hate Paypal, in this case, I would have preferred it.

So John knew the cash was coming and knew the address too?????? HMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Just kidding..

Marc, if you made the money order out to this person's name, I am sure that you are safe..

If the guy was a scammer and withdrew all the funds prior to you launching a complaint, the best PayPal will do is recover up to the Buyer Protection limit, minus a $25 handling fee.

Hopefully this is just a simple mail delay and nothing more.

Just called the bank.So far the check has not been cashed. Called his phone number, which is for his home address, and there was a nice voice message with wife and kids on it.

When you're dealing with such a rare bass, you never know who actually has one. Except for the fact that this bass will ultimately rest in a forumites hands, I wish I never got involved.

Marc, sounds like you have a decent point of contact there, so I'll move the black Lincoln away from the front of his house for the moment. The boys were getting antsy....

Well, good news...It shipped yesterday. Turns out this guy, in the 80's had sold a 4001 he had, regretted it, and saw the redneck at a music store in Bellmore NY in 1988. Loved the look, bought it, and kept it until yesterday.

Will post pics upon arrival.

Whew! Glad she is finally on the way Marc. I've been there on several deals wondering what I've done. Sounds like the sticky stuff is over. Hopefully the shipping elves are kind and sober.

Sounds like a cool Rocking Red Rick, (sorry, could not help myself),an unusual bass. Will be very interested in your thoughts and photos on her arrival.
