Well since Peter Holsapple toured with REM, I can post this here...How many of you have this?

Marc, I am certainly impressed. I'd love to see some old pictures with the boys, if you have any !

Mr. Seligman, I would like to hear your Cyclones cut. I was in Knoxville at school in the mid-80's; that era, especially in that region, turned out some of the best music ever.

My favorite band back then was Smokin' Dave and the Premo Dopes, who were just a wicked band, in spite of their name. The REM tie-in here is that once REM opened for them, around '84 when they were already kind of big--kind of out of respect, as I recall.

On the Meat Puppets, I remember seeing them at the old 930 Club in DC around 1988, they were VERY TIGHT and VERY VERY LOUD, andtheyplayedeverysongasfastastheypossiblycould. Which was pretty fast.

I love the dB's album The Sound of Music. "Looked at the Sun Too Long" is a brilliant song.

We played in Knoxville in 1980, I believe. The tour took us through Tennesee, North and South Carolina's as well as Georgia. I remember Pete Buck showing up with his girlfirend at the 688 club in Atlanta(supporting Wall of Voodoo). Then the following night, all the boys except Bill Berry showing up at the 40 Watt Club in Athens the following night. After that show, I had a discussion with Mike Mills about the badass II bridge Ken Smith installed in my 4001.

Dan, I will send you the tune.

I should add that when we came back from the tour, we were hanging out at the legendary Hoboken club Maxwell's(which we considered home) and a tune was playing on the jukebox. Ira Kaplan (then music critic, now of Yo La Tengo fame) came up to us and said that the song, and our tune were the best two songs to come out in 1981. Peter Holsapple made the same comment moments later.

The song was Radio Free Europe. I was jealous then, I am honored now, to have heard those comments.

Steve, not sure if I have any old Db's pics other than the ones on their singles. I did have the homor of playing on Stage with Peter Holsapple once. We played a couple of Cyclones songs along with the Big Star tune Oh My Soul.

I love Big Star! Also, speaking of Mike Mills & Badass bridges - I recorded with his old Rick (with Barts & a Badass) back in 1994 at a studio 1/2 way between Atlanta & Athens. I was trying to find the pic on my hard drive but can't locate it. I know I posted it somewhere in the forum before too...

Yeah Steve, the Cyclones used to play September Gurl way before the Bangles did it.

Chris -- how did you come across the bass? Do you know why he stopped using it?

He sold it to the guy that owned the studio. It had a letter of authenticity & everything. I can't really say why he quit using it...

never realized that Mills put Bartolini's in the bass... once he went Fender, he never went back. (and, he did use a Guild Pilot and Ibanez for a while...)

Quite frankly, I'd recommend every R.E.M. record from 1982 on. My favorite band, hands-down.

Now, if it's 12-string Rickenbacker you're after, that's pretty much limited to "Reckoning." I hear mostly 6-string before and after that record.

Happy hunting,
Scott

Every album with Bill Berry rules. They've gone downhill little by little ever since. But they still can kick it live. Anybody see that Mike Mills was named the 7th unsexiest guy in the world? That's harsh.

Yeah, for R.E.M. recommendations . . . everything. They're really amazing. My good friend's father went to college with them, and he's good friends with the band. Really cool guys.
