For the most part, I agree with you Jeff but I'll bet all of those..er..um..artists make it into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame before any progressive rock band does..."Rock&Roll Hall of Lame".

The reason used guitar parts price out significantly higher than when they're sold as a greater whole is, like with autos, the artificially high prices set on them by businesses. If new parts were less expensive, used parts would be, too (and less cars would be stolen.) And, of course, because the web and ebay makes it faster and easier to find buyer's who'll pay such prices. Before the web, chances are most people couldn't be bothered.

I think also that there are purists among us who want the original parts and want our basses with correct parts that aren't available new anywhere. We may be a small part of the whole but there are enough of us to drive the very small amount of old Ric parts up very high. I myself wouldn't have parted it out either but I bet there are a few Ric owners out there who are very happy he did. I think supply and demand sets the prices for these old parts not the owners of businesses as these parts are no longer made in the forms made in the 70's. I hate to tell you what I paid for a set of Grover Slimlines 5 years ago when I got my 72 4001FL and it needed two tuners. Prices on those have gone down a lot since I bought my set.

Okay, I voted but seeing as how it didn't do any good in the last two presidential elections, I don't expect much from a bunch of nobodys who probably think Kurt Cobain was a better gutarist than Robert Fripp. Here in the good ole USA, mediocraty is king.

I agree that I don't see a whole lot of used Ric parts for sale at any given time. With all of the modifications I read people are doing, I'm kind of surprised at that. But I guess most just hold onto the original parts (not a bad idea), even if they do seem to sell for a decent price. There must be a fair amount of guitar-less hi-gain pickups out there as it seems there are always people replacing them with vintage pickups. But I never see many for sale.
