Alisha, that is the 80's Ferrari Red, not Ruby, which has a metallic undercoat. I have a friend of mine who has a 660-12 in that color with black hardware.

Well , I just got off the phone with about 5 different stores that have new ricks and all of them said they still have chunky necks ! Im saddened by this . I sure wanted a new one . Fuller vintage instruments told me the ones he has have a Quote, "Modest neck profile" lol . Can you say B.S.

Ted Staberow is measuring as many basses as he can find and there will be a report on thick/thin neck profiles. I think you'll discover that there is no way to predict which years have "thick" or "thin" necks, and the measurements (which very usually within about 1/8" of each other) seem random. I wouldn't let reports of neck thickness put me off buying a model/color/condition bass that I wanted.

What is the difference between Ruby and Burgundy?

Peter: Ruby is dark red over a silver undercoat. Burgundy is dark red. The dark red used is the same color used to shade Fireglo finishes.

Peter: I should point out that Ruby finishes are notoriously prone to checking. Chips and scratches are very obvious with the silver undercoat. With these issues, I stay away from Ruby.

Jeffrey, I wish you were closer so you could check out my BBR, I dont know how anyone could ever classify this neck as "thick".

You are right. The neck is definitely not thick at all. At least for me. Hence the reason why I'm parting with it.
The 4004Cii are just perfect for my mits.
Can't wait to see the BBR 4004Cii model come out. Anyone have pics of one yet?

I like the 4004's also, Edgar. I have played Rath's 4-2-5 conversions and they are perfect for me. I just don't have one yet.
My birthday is on Friday, and I am hoping Jeff will drop his black 4004L off at my desk and say "Happy Birthday". But then again...

4001 Ruby and 4000 FL Burgundy.

With Burgundy one can see the wood grain through the finish, as it is a transparent color; with Ruby having an opaque silver metalflake undercoat, the grain can't be seen.

There is a lot of variation in Ruby, from the bright 'candy apple' red like my 4001 has, to a dark, nearly burgundy red (I have a 330 Ruby like that).

Another thing that will affect value is rarity. I have a 2005 4003BB which is going to be rarer than a MG, FG, MID or JG but not desert gold, turquoise etc (possibly)
