Gary,

Enjoy the 4005, it is a great bass that some are just not humble enough to understand the true nature of. Perhaps these basses are just for the Chosen few.

My understanding was the bass was going to be sold to Vincent Gallo but apparently that deal must have fell through. I was offered the bass but felt it should go to a collector. I'm more a player than a collector and I would feel that I'd have to be very careful in handling the bass every time I would want to play her.
Glad it went to a good home and despite what I've heard about 4005's not being a great bass and being hyped up recently even after many were left sitting in music shops for years, I own two with a total of three I've owned. Not much but all I can say is that I love them and so do a lot of people that have heard them.
Some players don't even know they exist. Some have offered to buy it from me. No chance.
I have one '66 and one '82. One from each end of the spectrum of their manufacture timeline.
They are now heirlooms and bequeathed to my daughter.

I'm glad Mr Gallo lost out by $50 when I sold a 4001S on ebay last year. I've had the displeasure of exchanging a few emails with him & he comes across very much like the post above. He also has been wanting a 1964 4001S export case which I have, but I just don't want to deal with a person like this, no matter how much money they have.

Someone forwarded me a copy of what happened here earlier. Yikes!!! Sounds like a deal soured and there is lots of bad blood to go around. It is unfortunate that it spilled over here.

If Vincent was going to buy the bass, why come on and trash the 4005's? Apparently they are not as un-desirable as he paints them to be.

Gary..........congrats on a super cool bass. I only held it for a couple of days, but it's a great bass. We're all jealous Image

Seth......totally pointless, self destructive comments.

Peter.......surprised to see Seth's abusive comments still on public display.

I have a feeling that Peter hasn't seen this thread yet, (he can't be watching 24/7). As I recall, Seth/Gallo has been in hot water before on this forum and I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last we hear from him.
Gary - that is one terrific bass! Congrats!

OK, sorry to have left my perch everyone. Seth was certainly inappropriate and I have removed his post and privileges.
