Why not wire it as a p/u selector?

My 4004C came with concentric pots installed and the originals in the case. I played a Cii with the standard setup and I like the concentrics better.

I like my 4004C, but it doesn't get played as much as my other Rics and I've been toying with the idea of selling it.

Ron, you have ANOTHER 4004? Can I see pics?

this bass here http://www.3dentourage.com/425/93-4004L-5.htm does not sound like an EBO ... it has a ton of treble bite ... the sound clip on that link has the tone set a 5 and I was not using a pick ...

the way the 4004 come wired from the factory with the toggle, volume and tone controls is not optimal in my opinion ... I prefer a jazz bass wiring ... I have 2 4004 basses ... my other one http://www.3dentourage.com/425/98-4004ci5.htm is warmer sounding because it has 500k ohm pots but it does not sound like an EBO either ... I used to have a real ebo ... they look cool but they are one dimensional ...

Uh..

1) - It's a Laredo, with a maple body,
2) - It has a maple neck
3) - To paraphrase, "The toggle has been removed and it has 1000k ohm volume and tone pots." - Then you'll realise what that DOES to the sound of a bass. It's no surprise it has that much treble. With maple comes treble, it is a very very bright wood.

Anyway, it's Cheyennes I have the problem with more than anything.

actually my Laredo was worse sounding than my Cheyenne ... the Laredo was bassier than the Cheyenne ... the 4004ci sounded good with 500k ohm pots and a vvt arrangement ... the 4004L didn't sound good wired stock and the 500k pot vvt helped but it needed more work ... it finally got the Squire biting sound with the 1000k ohm pots ... but I have worked on several 4004cii basses and they are also nice basses ...

overall I prefer the 4003 sound best ... I also like the 4001 and 4004 sound a lot as well ... all are fine basses ...

I love my 4004. It's lighter and has a super fast neck. I've heard it described as a RICK bass on steroids. I would have to agree. I love the noise it makes. I heard that the first one made was on specifically as a gift for Paul McCartney. Only then did they go into production.

Henny, I'm quite familiar with your dislike of the 4004 but if you know that adding 1000k ohm pots heavily boosts the treble why would you abandon (then continually slam) a bass you say looks stunning and plays great when a $15 mod could at least partially cure the dead tone you hate. Just a question (again I have no vested interest whether anyone else likes 4004's or not).

I thought Fender simply made that up (Maple = bright, rosewood = dark) when they started releasing guitars with both rosewood and maple fretboards, to discern between the two. Not sure where I read that.
