Well, Graham....it's like this....I've had the chance to own quite a few wonderful, fantastic instruments.
....and I've enjoyed them ALL...some stay and some go....and it WAS hard to let that nice '67 4005 go(it went to a lady who REALLY wanted one)...that AFG finish was unequalled...I'll probably have Paul W. give my WB the AFG treatment at some point. Image

My absolute FAVORITE instruments so far have been the 4005/WB on the left, the Shadows and the V63's....they've ALL been great, but these are the ones I've cherished...

Looks like this just sold for $4500 too. Making me think John had a really good deal. WB's are fantastic.

Jeff, you were right when you said this was one of the more versatile Ricks. It arrived to me setup with flatwounds - my preference, and high action - also my preference. The bridge pickup can get raunchy and over-the-top, while the neck pickup is the fattest, warmest, most wonderful tone you can ever imagine!

Having the 5th knob is also very cool, being as i'm a Rick guitar player as well.

This bass sounds EXACTLY how I hoped it would sound. I gigged it last night (See "Pics of you playing your Rick" thread) in a hard rock/light metal band, and despite flatwound strings, high action, and being a semi-hollow instrument, it was perfect for the part.

These basses definitley live up to the hype. If you've never seen one in person (Which I hadn;t until yesterday), they're something to behold.
