That's the first time I've seen a picture of a 1996 reissue. Am I gonna be the only one who doesn't like the shape of it?

Melibee, yours came in! Isn't that your very first "new" Rickenbacker?

Yes it is, Alisha!

It arrived at my house the day after my hubby ordered it for me from Dave's Guitars in LaCrosse, WI. How's that for speedy delivery? My very first brand new Ric, and I didn't even have to wait! Image

Hi gang! As I mentioned in the general forum, here's a pic comparing the pre-NAMM 1996 and one of the current production models. That's Johneek's on the left, my '06 on the right. I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I opened the case the first time--I was expecting a finish more like John's. Having said that, and having seen them in person side-by-side, I believe that while very different, they are each striking in their own right. The production AFG appears somewhat more transparent, out to the edges of the body. Something John noted of interest, the fade to amber on the sides of the guitar is the opposite on these two examples--John's guitar is faded towards the middle of the curve in the body, while mine is faded on the horns and bouts. You can see this in some of Kevin's photos earlier in the thread, and of course, the guitar on the left will look familiar! ;-)

(Apologies for the photo quality--I'm still trying to get the hang of this photo posting--John's pic is actually very clear and crisp, very high res).

Bill

Wow, they are both stunning in their own right....

Really neat to see both guitars side by side. Nice! Image
