If you're talking about the Fender V (roughly 1965-1970) it was definitely high C from the factory, but of course it could be redone. That bass had only 15 frets, a special split p-type pickup and a body more like a Mustang. With the short neck and the big headstock of that era it sure looked strange to me. But then any bass with more than 4 looks strange to me.

They are still strange looking, if I had had the money I would have bought it just to have it. I never realized that it had a short neck, 69 is a long time ago, and the one in Natick was way up high on the wall. The one I heard years ago sounded good though, the bass player did that short little Tim Bogart solo from "Take Me For A Little While" Vanilla Fudge, great solo. He was unbelievable.
