paypal actually is good in a way as they will reimburse you if they find for you

Not if they can squirm out of it - see my post the "International Paypal payments" thread in the "for sale" section.

I have to say that Paypal has botched not one, but quite a few of my transactions as well. It's quite an extensive laundry list, the highlight being a withdrawl of $1,600.00 from my account for a transaction that I wasn't even involved with. It took them 3 weeks to correct it.

Here are a few facts you guys should know: The parts he is selling were stolen from the Electro Factory long ago and surfaced recently for sale on E-bay. These things happened when I worked there back in the 70's also. It's like that in an industry that has parts that can be easily put in a coat pocket or such when you walk out the door at quitting time. As for myself, I would not feel good about buying these things knowing how the seller came by these parts..... Instant Karma always catches up with you....

Well since the Yankees lost to a better team, I am rooting for the Tigers!

Personally, knowing the story now, i'd feel uncomfortable if i had one of those parts... (no, i'm not superstitious).

Well that seals it. I'm returning the jackplate I bought from Doc Pittillo to RIC and reporting this statement of Dale's to Ebay and the Orange County police. I recommend that anyone else who has bought Rick parts from the Good Doc to follow suit.

dealing in stolen goods - not cool.

I've had friends with similar account ravages in Paypal. That's why I stay away from the auto-draft stuff.

Hey Dale, the Tigers are starting to scare me. I'm a lurker as far as baseball is concerned but these guys are fun to watch.

Sheena, I feel the same, icky mojo. (Yep, college boy and that's all I got.)

Bravo Walker - that seems proper.

I would think that there must be a statue of limitations here - or wouldn't Rickenbacker have gone after them?

Would be interesting to hear what the official line was from Rickenbacker on this?

I've started a communique with RIC via email and it has not yet reached a resolve. I'm sure that they are concerned about the claim of their stolen parts being sold on Ebay. There are a few parties involved here, so I want to be careful not to jeopardize the privacy of others as I proceed. Hopefully this will be taken care of without too much fanfare.

This many years after the fact, there's no recourse for stolen property on the criminal side. However, there are other ways to approach this from the civil side and we are doing exactly that; you'll notice, for instance, that auctions for the prototype components have been removed.

Way to go John! I really wondered just how a SoCal music store could have so many "RIC Prototype" parts. They would have had to see a lot of (non-existent) one-off instruments come through and be parted out to get them legally... which we all know doesn't happen.

Thanks, John. Good to hear from you albeit under unfortunate circumstances.

I've spoken to customer service at Ebay, and they recommend to anyone who has had problems with 'doc_pittillo' to proceed with "items not received" disputes that can be filed on the Ebay site. Reminder: The dispute process is completely independent from the feedback exchange platform, so don't be hesitant to report these suckers if you feel justified.

Thanks for that John. I was wondering what the official RIC disposition is.
