J Dog ---- your A/B comparison was very well done. I think I liked the fuller sound of the 370 Toasters the best - but have to say that I found merit in the distinctive sound aspects of each. Your playing was excellent and a very good choice of melody for demonstrating the 12 string sound. I liked it so much I downloaded it to burn to CD, in order to demonstrate to others the differences in various Rics and their PUPs. ....Rich F.

Further to some of the preferences for the sound of the 370 with Toasters mentioned several times in this thread; and also on the Janglebox thread, wherein someone said that a 370 did not need a Janglebox to get that Jingle-Jangle sound, that the 370 had that sound already.

I am not a technical person myself, but maybe someone who is a pup expert/tech or one of the Forum members associated with the Rickenbacker company or some other Jangly-sound Guru, could comment or explain what it is about the three-pup configuration of the 370 which makes it sound more Jangly than the two-pup configuration of the 360 models ?? Let's see....I'm certainly not a pup expert/tech and JH would most likely rather shoot me than hire me, I'm probably old enough to be a guru and did once own a jacket with a neru-collar, but I think of myself more as a pilgrim who has pursued the purest of jangle than as a guru. Anyway, these are my thoughts.

In my experience, the 370 configuration and the tone generated by adding a JangleBox are pretty different. The box adds compression, boosts the brightness and increases sustain. Just adding a middle pickup doesn't do the same thing because it's not adding the hardware needed to do it. To my ear, the box adds that little extra bit that I can't dial in with the amp and guitar controls. I don't doubt that other forumites get great jangle sound with various guitar and amp combinations and some likely prefer the uncolored sound to the JangleBoxed version, but I don't think you can eliminate the compression, sustain increase and bright-boost and expect to get the same sound just by adding another pickup.

Thanks Mark! I still have the file and will re-post it. I can email you the pic too. Sadly the SPC pictured is currently damaged but I am in the process of repairing it. I too am not an electronics expert, but I did post a description of my 370/12 through a recently purchased Fender Deluxe Reverb RI.

"Just gave myself a Christmas present of a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Was fooling around tonight getting used to the amp and burning in the tubes with my 370/12. It was amazing. Got great chime and jangle without any pedals or effects. Set the amp on the second channel with volume and reverb at 4. Tremelo set at moderate speed and intensity and away I went. Will try the Janglebox on channel 2 and the POD (in the clean channel 1) later. Great amp for all my guitars but I was pleasantly surprised with the way the Ric sounded on its own."

I did try the Janglebox through the Number 1 clean channel. The amp was buzzing somewhat so I had to dial back the box so much that it wasn't worth using it. When I use it through my Carvin BelAir (another vintage tube amp), the Janglebox works beautifully. It provides great jangle at any gain level in that amp. As they say, go figure.

Anyway, there is something special about three toasters and semi-hollow maple.

Hi, I just joined today, and recieved a very nice 2007 360-12 jetglow yesterday. Being (almost) new, this guitar has higain pickups. I can get Byrds/Beatles sounds, but need a compressor and a bit of gain at about 5kHz from a graphic eq old stompbox I have. It adds a little noise.

I want to ask a question to all. IF there was a passive little thing that you put in between the guitar jack and the cord that made 14k higains sound like 7k toasters.... lower output and all....would it be a desirable thing?

Looking forward to hearing the tests when reposted....

Welcome Les. I am not familiar with such a device. You will probably want to switch the hi gains to toasters.
