OMG, I need to sit down....

My hubby has gone CRAZY, and my head is spinning....

I just got home from running a bunch of errands and picking the kids up from school, and he called me down into the family room where I've got all my gear set up along with a stash of my favorite Rics, and he said, "Gee, I just noticed a weird-looking case over there with the others--where did that come from?" It was certainly NOT a Ric case.... it said Gretsch on it! He had immediately ordered me one of the $999 Duo-jets when I showed him the link last week, LOL! I told him he should have saved it for Christmas, but he said he didn't think he could hide a guitar from me for that long.... Pics to come soon!

Okay.... I'm more than a little overwhelmed~ I've never seen him have such a GAS attack before, to my benefit!

Nope.... But first non-Ric in a few years, LOL!

Seems to be well-built, and looks FABULOUS, of course. But seem to be having a little problem with the bridge pickup popping and crackling every time my hand brushes it.... Hope I don't have to send it back.... Anyone got any helpful ideas?

Wow, I had to look that up - Duo Jet - looks a bit like, well, a Lester! Is this a great country (planet - for the most part...) or what? So many freakin' guitars. I'm glad I'm not the only one to corrupt the cyperspace with an"other" guitar on the forum!

Nothing like spoiling ourselves, eh ? What the heck - every spiritual folk singer should have three closets full of guitars. Heck, I'm a drummer with four Rics, three Gibson acoustics, and so on. It takes one to know one.

Although at times I do have to work pretty hard to earn 'em....

Melissa, I got a 6128TSP Duo Jet a couple years ago. I believe it's exactly like yours (Dynasonic pups, Bigsby), except I guess it's "aged" to make it look like Harrison's first Gretsch. It's beautiful, flawless -- EXCEPT, the bridge pickup is way too close to the strings. I like a medium low action on my guitars, and the bridge pup sits on some kind of plastic shim/base. I saw this discussed on the Gretsch forum at the time, and several people said the best thing to do is to have the shim shaved down by a professional luthier. I have NOT done that yet, but it is irritating, because my playing style causes the pick to hit the top of the pickup during energetic passages.

I realize this may not be your problem, but it has caused me some grief to avoid the "noise" of pick hitting pickup. I have adjusted my playing style for that guitar (I have similar problem playing my 325C58 -- the middle pickup gets in the way. I'm just the type that likes "space" below the strings, I guess.)
