Beatlefreak, the two guitars I compared were made 19 years apart. I'm sure that slight changes have occured throughout the run of these instruments. Again, my 8/'05 360/12's neck is very comfortable to play and chord on. Much more so than my old 620/12 or my '96 325v63, both of which appear to be "flatter" to my eye and hand. I'm merely saying that for a "player", you need to pick it up and feel it before buying. I am not interested in hoarding or collecting Ricks that won't be played. If I've got 'em, they get used.

Does anyone know if 381s made back in the 60s had a different crown radius?

NOt absolutely certain, as these are quite rare birds. But, typically, Ricks of this vintage (depending upon just how old they are) have a nominal 6" radius.

My '60 has a 6"; Elys' '69OS has a 6" radius too, as I recall.

I'm finishing up a '58 that has a 7 1/4", though, so this is not a hard and fast rule, and Combos from the '50s have a broad radius (I think it could even be 12").

Paul W,

Quick question; If true, then a '50s Combo with a 12" fret board radius would be "flatter" than the current 10" radius?

Yes. THese can be checked with a fretboard radius gauge to insure accuracy.

Howdy,

Forgive my seemingly dumb question about the wider 12-string replacement nut..
Can one install such a nut on a 2004 360/6? The reason I ask is because I'd love to have slightly wider string spacing on my 6. Anyone?

I'm pretty sure you can. Recent 360s have a wider spacing.

The new nut is relatively easy to install, but be forewarned that the new 12-string preslotted nut from the RIC Boutique is most likely TALLER than your existing nut.

You should carefully sand the bottom of the new nut until it matches the heigth of the old nut. A nut with the proper heigth is a must because a nut that's too tall will affect the playability by making it more difficult to hold down chords on the first few frets. A little time spent on getting the correct nut heigth will reap many benefits in that your guitar will play beautifully.

Don't forget that a nut that's too tall can adversely affect your intonation.
