"When I owned Wints RM99 I used to bend the neck on some songs and yet there was never any lasting damage. I wouldnt dream of doing that now!"
And I did too Pete in the early days. I quite like that vibrato effect...
That thought today brings me out in a cold sweat!
I'll get the tape measure out...

I have a '79 'S' on the way. I will measure that when I get it. Interesting thread, thanks Jeff.

I dont have an apropiate measuring tool to measure this. But I did find out that the main reason that my '73 plays far more nicer than my '99 is neck width. Its almost a centimeter smaller. From thumb (behind neck) to fingers its not that much of a difference, but from E to G it is!!

Kevin, interesting stuff on that Jazz Bass. I have a USA '62 RI that , for me, has the perfect Fender neck. I'll get the measurements done for that one as well.

Ok, I just remeasured at the 3rd fret on my 11/2004 4003 and it is 12.3 so my measurements were:
1st = 11.9
3rd = 12.3
12th = 13.9

Cool. Thanks to all for participating, and do keep them measurements comin' in!
John...thats a chunky neck. Good thing you've got those chunky hands to go with it!
Kevin- Your '72 is bigger than I would expect. Are you pulling the measuring tape tight?(and under the strings!?)

Kevin, what I did was to cut a piece of paper about 20cm long and 1cm wide. I then stretched it round the neck and marked this with a pencil at each of the three points. I then put the paper flat and measured the three off. Worked for me anyway.

Under the strings and pretty tight. The flexible tape I'm using is junk though.
I was trying to measure them and keep my daughter's sticky little fingers off at the same time! She shut the case on my Jazz Bass when I was doing that one. Could be I screwed something up. I'll double check tonight.

"John...thats a chunky neck. Good thing you've got those chunky hands to go with it! "
Yeah, Jeff, it sure looks like mine is a biggie. Interesting, as when I first tried it in the store I thought how narrow it felt! When I tried Jerry's 4005 at the 75th I thought it felt tiny in my hand. I do really like my 4004C's neck which is a tad wider but a lot thinner f to b.
For comparrison, are we interested in 4004 measurements? What about 2000 or 3000 series?

I'd like to see the 4004's.

Well, when I started this thread I was mostly concerned with the 4001/4003/V63/C64. Maybe I'll start a second thread for the 4004 series.
Does anybody really care about the 2000/3000 series?

Jeff,
I re-measured last night. It was right. I even calibrated the tape to a pair of calipers. It was off less than .08 at 13cm.
If we are measuring in inches, are we all converting to cm the same? 1 inch = 2.54cm

Thanks for the double check, Kevin. All of my measurements were from a metric measuring tape. I would guess the same for AY from Japan and BA from the UK.
John-What does that word mean..."diplomatic?"
